New Zealand currently has a voluntary standard for sunbed operators, incorporating recommendations such as ensuring all sunbeds are supervised and not allowing people under the age of 18 or with the fairest skin types to use them. Surveys by Consumer New Zealand have, however, found a high level of noncompliance with these standards (Consumer NZ 2010).

To find out more about what’s happening in New Zealand, respondents the 2010 Health and Lifestyles Survey (HLS) were asked whether they had used a sunbed in the previous 12 months.
