Tertiary Education System and Student Support is the last of five reports replacing Profile & Trends:  New Zealand's Tertiary Education Sector.  The new Profile & Trends series has been published throughout the year as information became available.  The topics covered in the first four reports were as follows:

New Zealand's Annual Tertiary Education Enrolments
New Zealand's Workplace-based Learners
Tertiary Education Outcomes and Qualification Completions
New Zealand's Tertiary Education Research

The 2014 Profile & Trends series, contain data on tertiary education trends and changes for the year ended December 2014, unless otherwise stated.  Most of the statistics in Tertiary Education System and Student Support are derived from returns provided by government-funded tertiary education organisations to the Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Commission.  A list of figures is included at the end of the report.

The report begins with the tertiary education highlights in 2014 (chapter 1).  Chapter 2 covers the financial performance of public tertiary education institutions and chapter 3 provides information on the human resources in the system.  Chapter 4 describes the funding of tertiary education, followed, in chapter 5, by data on the financial support given to students.

Also included this year is an international tertiary education comparison (chapter 6), based on the latest available information from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (Education at a Glance: 2015:  OECD Indicators).

Government expenditure on tertiary education in 2015 and early tertiary education enrolment numbers are commented on in the postscript (chapter 7).

The 2014 Profile & Trends series represents the 17th annual survey of the tertiary education system to be published by the Ministry of Education.
