At the time of this review there were 46 licensed non-club gaming societies (NCS) operating gaming machines in commercial venues in New Zealand. Under regulations associated with the Gambling Act 2003 (the Act), all societies conducting Class 4 gambling are required to present a basic level of information on their websites. This desktop review was conducted to gauge the availability of this information. The review looked at aspects related to:

  • the general characteristics of the websites (in terms of information being publicly accessible);
  • the availability of key required documents (such as annual reports, policies and reviews);
  • the availability of information about grant application processes; and
  • the availability of information about grant recipients.

This review was mainly aimed at understanding how easy it is for the public to access certain types of information. As part of the review, note was taken if the information provided met the requirements in the Act. While outside the requirements of the legislation, identifying good practice could help NCS improve the quality of the information they provide.
