In 2014 the Health and Independence Report (the Director-General of Health’s Annual Report on the State of Public Health) was published as part of the Ministry's Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2014.
The Health and Independence Report provides an overview of the current state of public health in the following areas: health system performance, changing health needs, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), risk factors for NCDs, and infectious diseases.
This year’s report contains the following sections:
- Health system performance
- Changing health needs
- Non-communicable diseases
- Risk factors for non-communicable diseases
- Infectious diseases.
Purpose
The Health and Independence Report gives an overview of the public health system performance and the current state of health in New Zealand. The report fulfils the responsibility of the Director-General of Health under section 3C of the Health Act 1956 to report annually to the Minister of Health on the current state of public health in New Zealand. The report accompanies the Ministry of Health’s Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2014.
